Policies

Are there insurance requirements for signing a lease at the community?
Renters insurance is required. Coverage for your personal belongings are not included as part of your Lease Agreement. Renters insurance can provide coverage for loss or damage to your personal belongings (including fire, theft, or natural causes). Renter’s insurance limits are $4,000 for personal property and $100,000 liability for pet owners.

You can obtain renters’ insurance coverage via American Campus Communities’ preferred insurance partner Lease Track.

Are there pet-friendly apartments? If I have a pet, what do I do?
Pets are allowed in designated “pet-friendly” units on the property. All pets must be registered and all residents are required to abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the Pet Policy including insurance requirements. Please contact the Graduate Housing Office at either gradhsg@princeton.edu or 609-258-3460.

Can I have guests? Where can my guests park?
You are allowed to have guests for short periods of time up to one week. Extended visits are prohibited. Your guests can park in the designated visitor parking spaces in the garage. A visitor parking pass will need to be obtained from the University Transportation and Parking Services (TPS) office located on the “A” floor of the New South Building. Overnight passes may be obtained in advance at no charge.

How do I apply to Meadows?
For continuing students, Meadows apartments are assigned via the University's Graduate Student Housing Room Draw process; therefore, continuing students must apply for Room Draw through the Graduate Housing Office. Assignments are based on eligibility and indicated preferences are considered when available. Incoming students will be assigned to one of the University’s graduate student housing locations, which may include Meadows, if they apply by the April 15th deadline. Location preference will be taken into consideration although actual placement is dependent upon unit availability.

How do I get my deposit back?
The amount that is refunded from your security deposit is based on the condition of your unit after move out and any outstanding balances on your resident account. The cost for any repairs beyond normal wear and tear will be deducted from your security deposit. You can schedule a walk-through with the management staff prior to move out so that you get an idea of potential charges. Refunded security deposits will be returned by the University after the final inspection of your unit has been conducted by management.

If I do not have a car how can I get around?
Meadows is located on the University's Tiger Transit route, which transports residents to and from campus and town. Please click here for the Tiger Transit schedule. Additional transportation will be available in the garage through the University's Enterprise CarShare program. Information on the CarShare program is located on Transportation and Parking Services website.

If I have an issue outside of office hours or an emergency, who do I call?
Meadows has an on-site manager and 24-hour emergency maintenance to assist residents’ with any after-hours emergencies. The contact information will be provided to residents upon move-in.

If I need an extension on my contract, what do I do?
Each spring student with this extenuating need may apply for an extension via the online application process located on the graduate housing website. The student will be notified via their Princeton email address of the status of their application. Only students with valid apartment agreements for the next academic year will be considered for an extension in their unit beyond June 30th. Please contact the Graduate Housing Office at either gradhsg@princeton.edu or 609-258-3460.

What are the normal dates for University contracts?
The housing agreement is based on the University’s fiscal year, which starts on July 1 and ends on June 30th. Your contract starts on the date you move in during the fiscal year and ends on June 30th. You are permitted to move out prior to June 30th; however, you are required by the housing agreement to provide a 30-day notice of your intent to vacate.

What are the rules and regulations for the Complex?
You are responsible for abiding by all policies outlined in your agreement with Princeton University Housing and Real Estate Services. In addition, a Meadows Resident Handbook will be provided to each resident upon move-in. The handbook will include specific rules and regulations, emergency contact phone numbers, and tips to help ensure that you have the best possible experience while living at Meadows.

What are the sustainability measures at Meadows?
In an effort to further Princeton University's sustainability goals, Meadows is built to Passive House standards. Passive House incorporates high performance exteriors, an airtight building envelope, and improved ventilation systems to increase comfort and air quality, and to balance heat and moisture management. 

What is a security deposit? How much is it?
The security deposit is a sum of money held throughout the course of your housing agreement to ensure that the cost of any repairs in your unit beyond normal wear and tear is covered. At Meadows, as in all Princeton University housing, the security deposit is the amount of your first rental installment and it is to be submitted to the Graduate Housing Office in accordance with the established University procedures.

What is The Commons building?
The Commons building is located on the first floor of Building C at 311 Court Drive. This is where the Management Office is located and will be staffed Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm. It is also where the Community Kitchen, Fitness Center, Children’s Play Room, Computer Cluster, Study Rooms, Community Library, and the outdoor BBQ deck are located.

What types of programming will be offered at The Commons? Is there space to hold events? Who do I contact?
The Commons will offer space for the graduate student community to hold intellectual, cultural and social programming. To reserve space within The Commons, graduate students can contact the Management Office located within The Commons building.

What unit types are offered at Meadows?
We offer many different types of floor plans ranging from a studio to a 4 bedroom - 4 bathroom apartment. Please refer to the floorplan section of the website for additional information.

Where can I park? How do I get a permit? How much does the permit cost?
All residents will park in the parking garage located on the property in accordance with Princeton University permitting rules and regulations. You are required to register your car with the Transportation and Parking Services (TPS) which will issue the parking permit. Permits can be picked up from the TPS office located on the “A” floor of the New South Building. If you do not have a car, there will also be an Enterprise CarShare vehicle available in the parking garage. Information on the CarShare program is located on TPS website. There are also designated 30 minute parking spaces proximal to the buildings for unloading purposes.

Which school will my elementary-aged child attend?
Meadows is located in West Windsor township which is served by the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District which includes ten schools ranging from elementary to high school. Further information on the district’s schools and transportation can be found on the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District website.

Which utilities do I pay for? What is the billing process?
Residents are responsible for their cable bill. Internet is included in the unit rent. For cable, residents will need to establish this service with Comcast and pay the bill directly to Comcast. Information on setting up your Comcast Service is provided in the Meadows Resident Handbook.

Who handles the maintenance at Meadows?
Maintenance at Meadows is handled by ACC maintenance staff. Service requests can be submitted via phone, email, in person at the management office in The Commons, or online through the resident portal. Work orders are generally handled within 48 hours, but 24 hour maintenance is available for emergencies.

Who manages Meadows Apartments?
American Campus Communities (ACC) manages Meadows Apartments for Princeton University. American Campus Communities is the nation’s largest developer, owner and manager of high-quality student housing communities. Management staff will be available on site at The Commons building Monday through Friday (8:00am – 5:00pm) to assist with any resident concerns and/or issues.

Who will provide Internet? How do I access University resources?
Wi-Fi is available in your unit and throughout Meadows. Ethernet ports are also available in the living room and bedroom of your unit.

Wall to wall wireless connection to the Internet is provided in each unit by the University’s Office of Information and Technology (OIT). eduroam, an international network access service, and available to all Princeton University students to gain secure access to Princeton University’s wireless network.

To access the Wi-Fi, please log onto the network is eduroam, you will login using your Princeton netID and password.
