I was accepted to UNC via Carolina Global Launch, can I sign a lease now to secure my space when I return in the spring?
Unfortunately, you cannot sign a lease until you have successfully completed the Carolina Global Launch program. If you are interested in living with us in the spring, please contact our leasing office to be added to the interest list. We will contact everyone on the interest list in December and offer spaces based on availability at that time.
Can I be my own Guarantor?
A resident can act as their own guarantor if they can show documentation as outlined in the lease agreement that they have income greater than three times the rental installment.
Is insurance coverage for my belongings included as part of my Lease Agreement?
Coverage for your personal belongings is not included as part of your Lease Agreement. Renters insurance can provide coverage for loss or damage to your personal belongings (including fire, theft, or natural causes). Renters insurance is required with all residents having a minimum of $100,000 in personal liability coverage. Please click here for more information.
What are the requirements of the Guarantor?
The guarantor will need to sign the guaranty agreement. If the resident is not of legal age to execute a contract, the guarantor will be required to sign both the lease and guaranty agreement.
All residents require a guarantor to complete the guaranty agreement.
What happens if I sign a lease at Granville and then decide to go to school elsewhere?
Our lease allows for your contract to be cancelled without financial penalty as long as you provide us with proof of enrollment at the other school no later than 60 days prior to the lease start date. This should be sent to GranvilleTowers@AmericanCampus.com.
What is an individual lease?
An individual lease provides each resident with their own separate lease agreement and responsibility for his/her rental installments and applicable utility and parking charges. By signing an individual lease, you are only taking responsibility for your rental installments and lease terms and will not be held liable for any delinquent amounts owed by your roommate(s).
Where can I apply?
You can apply at GranvilleTowers.com, and can access the online application by clicking the “Apply Online” link at the top of every page.
When does the lease agreement become binding?
The lease agreement is binding once the agreement has been signed regardless of the status of the guarator agreement.
Can I fill out an application online?
You can access the online application by clicking the “Apply Online” link at the top of every page.
Can non-residents buy a meal plan?
Yes! Please click here to review our current pricing.
Do Granville residents typically purchase a meal plan on campus in addition to their Granville meal plan?
We do not have data regarding purchases of meal plans through Carolina Dining Services, but we generally advist to hold off on buying another meal plan until your student has settled into their regular routine after the first couple of weeks into the semester.
How do Granville meal plans work?
The Agora is our on-site eatery, and a meal plan is included with the rent and cannot be excluded from your lease. The Agora operates as an all-you-care to eat facility which means that once a resident or customer comes in, they are welcome to visit as many food stations as they would like and return for unlimited seconds. Therefore, you should consider a “meal” an entry into the Agora, rather than referencing a specific quantity of food.
Meal plans are not interchangeable with campus dining facilities. The Granville Towers meal plan gives students access to the Agora only. Food at dining facilities on campus must be purchased a la carte or with Carolina Dining Services.
Unlimited Meal Plan: This entitles the resident to enter the Agora as many times as they would like throughout the semester.
Block Plans: Block meals reference the number of entrances into the Agora that a resident has throughout the course of the semester. The block plan offers flexibility as a student may use more meals during one week over another or even towards the beginning of the semester as opposed to the end. However, it is a set amount that needs to be budgeted over the course of the semester.
—100 meals per semester/approximately 6 meals per week (assuming a 16 week semester)
—160 meals per semester/approximately 10 meals per week (assuming a 16 week semester)
How do I change my meal plan?
You may change your meal plan until June 12th, 2024. Those requests can be made through the Community Portal. To request a meal plan change, log into the Community Portal using the same email address and password you used to submit your application. Click on the “Leases” icon, and then click “Request a Change to My Lease.” Next, a pop-up box will open.
You may not decrease your meal plan for the Fall semester after this June 12th deadline, but you can decrease your meal plan for the Spring semester.
Requests to increase the Fall meal plan after the June 12th change deadline may be submitted after September 3rd, 2024.
If a resident does not wish to upgrade from the 100 block to the 160 block because they only need a small number of meals, a 10-block reload can be purchased for $100 in the Business Office.
What hours is the Agora open?
The Agora, our on-site dining facility, is open the following days and times:
Monday-Friday: 7am-8pm (7:30pm on Fridays)
Saturday-Sunday: 10am-7:30 pm
Late Night Grill (Sunday-Thursday): 8:30pm-11pm.
Can I be my own guarantor?
A resident can act as their own guarantor if they can show documentation as outlined in the lease agreement that they have income greater than three times the rental installment.
What paperwork is required with a guarantor?
The guarantor will need to sign the guaranty agreement. If the resident is not of legal age to execute a contract, the guarantor will be required to sign both the lease and guaranty agreement.
When is a guarantor required?
All residents require a guarantor to complete the guaranty agreement.

Semester Installment VS Monthly Installment?
If you are on the Semester Installment Plan, you will pay Granville in 2 equal installments, once each semester. This payment is due July 1 & December 1.
If you are on the Monthly Installment Plan you will pay in 10 equal installments. Installments are due on the 1st of every month per the payment schedule outlined in the lease agreement. Payment goes from July 1 - April 1. The typical lease term is approximately 9.5 months of occupancy which coincides with the university's academic calendar. The resident is charged a total rent amount for the contracted occupancy period.
Are there insurance requirements for signing a lease at the community?
Every resident is required to purchase and maintain a renter’s personal liability insurance policy which provides limits of liability to third parties in an amount not less than $100,000 per occurrence through an insurance company or insurance agent authorized to issue insurance in this state. Such insurance policies are often referred to as “renter’s insurance policies” or “liability-only insurance policies.”
Most renter’s insurance policies contain personal liability coverage and also personal property coverage for your own property. You are only required to have personal liability insurance, however we highly recommend that you obtain coverage for your personal property too. Personal property coverage protects your property in the event of theft, fire or weather-related loss to your property.
Every leaseholder is required to present proof of personal liability coverage. The policy must identify Granville Towers LLC, 2100 Granville Towers Ln South, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 as a “Party of Interest” or “Interested Party” where the “Party of Interest” or “Interested Party” must be notified within ten (10) days after your insurance company or agent renews, cancels or non- renews your policy. Failure to include Granville Towers LLC as the “Party of Interest” or “Interested Party” with the above listed address will constitute a breach of this Lease.
What are the liability insurance requirements?
The requirements are listed below:
When can I obtain insurance?
Please wait until you recieve your room assignment to obtain the liability insurance policy.
Are you a part of the First-Year Experience (FYE)? How can students get to know others at Granville?
Yes! In addition to the events that Granville Towers plans for residents, we are apart of the First Year Experience through our partnership with Carolina Housing. Thus, Carolina Housing holds monthly program most frequently geared toward connecting residents with similar interests or academic/professional pursuites on their floor. Some examples of these programs have been a do-at-your-own-pace partner scavenger hunt, slow friending, and trivia nights.
Do first-year students who live at Granville feel isolated because they do not live in on-campus housing?
Absolutely not! Granville is home to nearly 1,300 students, over 75% of which are first-year students. We make every effort to ensure our residents not only get involved on property through floor and community-wide programming, but also on campus. We will notify you of upcoming events that are occurring at both Granville and on campus. We want our residents to meet as many friends as possible, therefore we give them resources to accomplish that.
What do Resident Advisors (RAs) do for first-year residents?
RAs do a whole lot for their first-year residents. They plan social, personal development, and academic/professional programs, roommate and suitemate agreements and conflict mediations, serve as a point of contact for any questions students may have, serve in an on-call rotation for any after-hours emergencies residents may have, and hopefully be a welcoming presence where the residents call their home.
Do you have a roommate matching service?
Yes! Our roommate matching program is powered by RoomSync–a roommate matching app. You will have the opportunity to create a personal profile, search, filter, chat and match with other residents who will be living in the community. You decide what matters most when narrowing down your search. Want a roommate with the same major? You got it! Prefer to live with someone who goes to bed early? No problem! Looking for a roommate who enjoys college football? No sweat! You control your search and matching criteria to find the perfect roommate.
How are roommates and suitemates assigned?
It is not necessary to know who you want as your roommate and/or suitemates prior to applying to live at Granville or signing a lease. In fact, that part of the process happens after the lease is signed. After a student has signed their lease, they will receive a link to join our RoomSync program, which is where Granville residents can search and select their future roommate and/or suitemates. The RoomSync app will ask residents questions about their preferences and then show them other respondents who answered similarly. You can browse potential matches or even enter the name of a specific individual if you already know who you would like to live with. Please note that we do not assign roommates based on the information you included in your application; you must still indicate your preference via RoomSync. Granville roommate and suitemate preference via RoomSync will close on June 14th, 2024.
Am I allowed to request a specific unit?
We do not allow any unit/tower/location requests. We may be able to accommodate upper classman floors and all-female floors. You may email requests to us at granvilleroomsync@gmail.com. Your room assignment will be communicated to you in the summer.
Can I request specific roommates?
Yes! You can search for and match with specific roommates and suitemates in the RoomSync app. Change your mind? No problem! You can modify your matches if your preferences change up until the matching period close date.
May I request a specific tower?
Tower preferences can be noted on the resident's RoomSync profile, but are not guaranteed.
When will room assignments be sent?
RoomSync closes June 14th, 2024. Room assignments will be sent July 15th, 2024.
