Recognizing her 20 years of exceptional leadership, Austin Business Journal (ABJ) named Kim a nominee for ABJ’s Best CFO in our hometown headquarters city this year. Kim has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and financial stewardship within our organization and the Austin community.

This annual award recognizes the top CFOs in the Central Texas area who demonstrate exemplary financial guidance and leadership, risk management, and strategic innovation to achieve profitable growth.

Since joining ACC shortly before the company’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2004, Kim’s focus on scalability has helped grow a $300 million valuation to $13 billion. She has been adept at navigating the company’s transition from being the first publicly traded student housing company to the nation’s largest student housing company, now under private ownership.

Over the past two decades, Kim’s leadership philosophy has been a valuable asset to American Campus Communities. She encourages her team to embrace change and learning opportunities, consistently motivating them to evolve and adapt their processes to support ACC’s ongoing and rapid growth.

“We are incredibly proud to see the Austin Business Journal recognize Kim’s success and talents among some of the top CFOs in Austin,” said Rob Palleschi, CEO of American Campus Communities. “She has been instrumental in the company’s strong financial growth throughout her career at ACC and is a shining example of an executive who leads with heart at work and in the community.”

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kim prioritizes giving back to the community with an intentional focus on helping students. As a Central Texas Chapter of Folds of Honor (FOH) board member, she has helped the local chapter raise $1.3 million to fund 260 scholarships for spouses and children of fallen and disabled service members and first responders. She also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council of UT’s McCombs School of Business and, in keeping with her inspiring leadership journey as a UT alumna and commitment to mentoring students, was invited to deliver the commencement ceremony speech last year for the #1-ranked UT Master’s in Accounting Program.

The Austin Business Journal’s Best CFO awards ceremony took place on Thursday, July 11, in Austin. Kim’s colleagues and family joined her at the event to celebrate her nomination for the prestigious award.

Thank you, Kim, for your unwavering leadership that advances ACC’s mission to create communities where students love living!
